Continued firing along LoC
JAMMU, Sept 11 — Firing from across the international border and the Line of Control was continued in several sectors in Jammu division since last evening, official reports said here today. Indian troops retaliated. The exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops did not affect polling in border areas, the reports said.

The boundary wall of a house in border village in Akhnoor sector in Jammu division was damaged in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast today.

Militants had planted the IED on the outside wall of a house in the village during the night. The explosion damaged the outer wall only and no one was injured.

A major administrative base of the banned Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit was busted by Rashtriya Rifle (RR) troops in Doda district while two ultras were killed and a large quantity of arms and ammunition recovered in Udhampur and Kathua districts of Jammu division since yesterday, a defence spokesman said today.

The militant base was busted during intensified operations taken up by the RR Delta Force as a proactive measure in sensitive areas in view of the elections.

As the security forces had received information about a likely meeting of militants in Neel valley of Banihal town to plan disruption of elections in the region, the RR troops along with the Special Task Force (STF) of the state police launched massive "seek and destroy" operations lasting about two days.

The troops located a large cave covered with thick vegetation which could hold administrative stores upto 15 persons for a number of days yesterday. A large quantity of sustenance rations, ammunition and personal belongings were recovered foiling the militants’ plan to carry out subversive actions on the eve of elections.

Similar searches were being carried in other areas of Banihal, Doda, Marmat, Thathri and Kishtwar to engage militants and provide a sanitised atmosphere to the electorate of Doda district.

Troops recovered a large quantity of arms and explosives from the encounter site at Rakh-Rajpura in Hiranagar tehsil of Udhampur district yesterday.

In an encounter on Thursday, three militants and two army jawans were killed and seven jawans seriously injured.

Reports from Udhampur district said two ultras had been killed and two policemen injured in two separate militancy-related incidents in Basangarh and Chenani areas since yesterday.

A Defence Ministry spokesman said here today that security forces killed two militants during a search operation at Doba in Makhiasi forest near Mandi area of Poonch district in the wee hours today.

The slain militants were identified as Bashir Ahmad and Abdul Gani hailed from Badgam district of Kashmir valley. Two AK 47 rifles, one pistol, one grenade, a radio set and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Militants and security forces exchanged fire at Pulwama last evening during which one person was killed.Top
