Autorickshaws violate pact FARIDABAD, Sept 20 The agreement between the district administration and representatives of autorickshaw drivers signed on September 17 regarding the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act is being implemented more in violation by autorickshaw owners in Faridabad. The autorickshaws remained off the road for five days last week after the police launched a drive against them for not following traffic rules and causing air pollution. A large number of vehicles were impounded by the police and certain others did not ply for fear of being challaned as they neither possessed the documents nor had licences to ply. Although people had faced inconvenience due to the absence of the autorickshaws, they praised the police as its action improved the traffic situation. But after some ruling party leaders intervened, the autorickshaws were allowed to ply, if they followed the guidelines. But even three days after the accord there is no improvement in the situation. The autorickshaws continue to flout the traffic rules by carrying passengers more than the capacity, not getting possess pollution control certificates or not possessing valid documents. The locally-made diesel engines which emit dark smoke have also not been removed. The administration had allowed the 15 days to deposit the road tax and for the procurement of driving licences. The other points of the agreement had to be implemented immediately. Instead of following the rules the autorickshaws have increased the fare. The administration had swung into action on a directives issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court where the action taken report is to be submitted on September 23. A similar drive against
the erring autorickshaws was launched several months ago,
but was discontinued for reasons best known to the
administration. |

According to available information, the owner of Gogi Printing Press, Rajiv, noticed a fire in the open drain near his shop and immediately informed the fire station. A burning match-stick might have resulted in the fire. Residents of the area met the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Rastogi, and urged him to look into the matter. The Public Relations
Officer of a social organisation, Parakh, Mr Suresh

Some paddy growers said that a high-level probe into the racket would expose the misdeeds of the officials who were said to be in league with the rice-sheller owners in the district.
