4-year-old Harkirat Boy among 3 electrocuted

Three persons, including a four-year-old child, were electrocuted in three separate incidents in the city here today.

It was the same old story in the city today. After a brief spell of rain, most roads, especially in the old city area, were flooded, causing inconvenience to residents. The hour-long rain, which started at around 4 pm, inundated the roads in areas like Domoria Bridge, Chaura Bazaar, Mata Rani Chowk, Dholewal Chowk, Janakpuri, Old GT Road and Bhadaur House.

Unauthorised gas kits in vehicles, school vans go unchecked

The death of 14 persons after their van caught fire after a gas leakage in Prabudhnagar district of Uttar Pradesh has brought to the fore the menace of unauthorised gas kits in vehicles.

The son of a former president of the tempo union allegedly shot a tempo driver of Kohara village at the tempo stand here this afternoon. Official sources said Tejinder Singh Bhola, son of former president of the union, the late Magghar Singh, got off his tempo brandishing his .32 bore licensed revolver and fired into the fire.

47-year-old run over by train

A 47-year-old man was run over by a train while he was crossing a track near Dukh Nivaran Sahib here today. The incident took place here this morning when the victim, identified as Harinder Singh, a resident of Kucha No. 16 in Prem Nagar, was crossing the track.

No clear guidelines on community radio stations

Though the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has asked various districts in Punjab to encourage "not-for-profit" organisations to set up community radio stations with a coverage area of around 10-kilometre radius, the authorities concerned feel that it is difficult to initiate the project in the absence of clear-cut guidelines from the ministry.
