IGP takes over, cancels transfers
CHANDIGARH, June 1 — Within hours of joining as Inspector General of Chandigarh Police, Mr S.K. Singh, today cancelled the transfer orders of 10 police personnel , including six Inspectors and three Station House Officers. The transfer orders for these 10 policemen had been issued in two batches on May 27 and May 31, respectively.

50 lakh for treatment of poor patients
CHANDIGARH, June 1 — A sum of Rs 50 lakh will be spent by the Chandigarh Administration during the current financial year under the National Illness Assistance Funds on medical treatment of poor patients whose monthly income is less than Rs 290 in rural areas and Rs 301 in the urban areas of the union territory.

Neelgai freed from captivity
CHANDIGARH, June 1—After relishing the hospitality of the UT Wildlife Department for over two years, Neelu, a full-grown neelgai, reluctantly embraced the path to liberty as it was finally released by department officials in the Sukhna Choe forest area, near here, today. PANCHKULA, June 1— A local STD PCO operator, Balwinder Singh, has been arrested by the local police in connection with a scandal of "fraudulent phone connections", which was unearthed in August last year.
