Washington looks upon
India as “a global partner” with which it has
consciously decided to cooperate in a dizzying array of
transnational challenges and as a major pointer to this
the US Congress would approve the July 18 Indo-US nuclear
deal before President George W. Bush visits New Delhi
early next year.

Siachen Glacier, Chief of Army Staff General J.J. Singh
today said that New Delhi had conveyed to Islamabad that

Contract workers can’t claim regularisation: SC

In a ruling that would discourage the state governments to give employment through back door by engaging workers on daily wages or contract, the Supreme Court has held that such employees would not be entitled to salary equal to those of regular employees recruited through a due selection process laid down under the law.

for murder of Canadian NRI Jassi

In the much-publicised supari
killing of Jaswinder Kaur, alias Jassi, a 25-year-old non-resident
Indian from Canada, Mr Inderjit Singh Walia, Additional Sessions Judge,
Sangrur, today awarded life imprisonment to seven accused, including a
Head Constable of Punjab police, while four others were acquitted. All
the seven accused have also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 each.
