A 40-year-old married woman died by suicide in Teda Rajputa village in Ajnala here on Tuesday.

She was perturbed over the alleged harassment by a youth of Chak Dogra village identified as Major Singh.

Besides Major Singh, the prime suspect, the police have also booked Jagga Singh of Dalla Rajputa village under the offence of abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation. No arrests have been made till now.

Bhagwan Singh, father of the victim, told the police that his daughter got married in 2010 and had three children.

Her husband had gone to Dubai for work for five years. He had returned but again went to Dubai nearly two months ago. He alleged that Major Singh was harassing his daughter even though she opposed it several times.

The victim’s father alleged that on Tuesday when he went to see her daughter, he saw accused Major Singh coming out of the house. The accused later fled the scene, he told the police.

The deceased’s father told the police that after entering inside the house, he found his daughter hanging from the ceiling.

Sub-inspector Lakhbir Singh said the body of the victim was handed over to the family after autopsy. He said the accused were absconding since the incident.
