Four commercial establishments sealed for not paying property tax

The property tax wing of the MC sealed four buildings of tax defaulters in various areas of the city today. Acting on the orders of the municipal corporation Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, the property tax wing has intensified its campaign against tax defaulters. The MC superintendents of all city zones, along with their respective teams, took to the field to recover the pending taxes.

In the east zone, Superintendent Pradeep Rajput, accompanied by inspector Satinder Singh, inspector Sukhdev Singh, recovery clerk Ajit Singh and other officials, sealed four establishments that had failed to clear their outstanding tax dues. Rajput stated that a restaurant in Ajit Nagar, another one on 100-Foot Road in East Mohan Nagar, a tile and granite showroom in East Mohan Nagar and a general store in IDH Market were sealed for non-payment of property tax.

Despite being a holiday, the municipal corporation successfully collected Rs 16.21 lakh as property tax today. With this, the total tax collection for the current financial year has reached Rs 36.29 crore. With nine days still remaining in the financial year, the collection drive is expected to bring in further revenue.

Commissioner Aulakh urged defaulters to settle their property tax dues promptly to avoid the sealing of their properties. He announced that all Citizen Facilitation Centres of the MC would remain open on weekends until March 31 to facilitate tax payers. Additionally, he warned that after March 31, defaulters would have to pay 20% penalty along with an interest rate of 1.5% per month on their tax dues.
