A Haryana minister’s SUV and an escort vehicle of the Haryana Police were issued a traffic violation information slip (TVIS) by the Chandigarh Traffic Police for jumping the red light.

A commuter posted the video of the violation, which took place at the Bapu Dham light point on March 9, on the Twitter handle of the traffic police following which cops initiated action and issued a postal challan.

  • This is not the first time that a Haryana Government vehicle has been issued a challan. Earlier, a vehicle designated to the Haryana DGP and a car designated to the Chief Secretary’s office were issued a TVIS for using a net on the windscreen after city residents posted pictures of the

    violation on Twitter.

The video shows a Toyota Fortuner (HR 06W 0001) and an escort vehicle, a Mahindra Scorpio (HR 03Y 4359), designated to the DGP’s office, Haryana.

Under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, introduced last year, government vehicles violating traffic norms are levied double the fine, which has to be paid by the person driving the vehicle.

The violation of jumping the red light will also led to the suspension of the driving licence of both drivers for three months.
