BJP eying 50 lakh members ahead of municipal elections
In a strategic move to outsmart the Congress, the BJP is set to achieve a 50-lakh membership target ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for February-March. With over 42 lakh members already enrolled, the BJP is positioning itself as a strong organisational entity against its traditional rival. In comparison, the BJP had 33 lakh members in 2019.

Elections for the presidents of 20,629 booths were conducted between January 1 and 5, while mandal president elections are slated for January 6 to 12. District president elections will follow, although the state BJP president is usually nominated by the party high command after a formal election process.
Sources revealed that the party aims to enroll 50,000 active members, with over 31,000 already enrolled. Active members are required to enroll at least 50 primary members. To broaden its base, the BJP has increased the number of mandals from 313 to 376, strengthening its grassroots presence ahead of the civic polls.
“We are well on our way to achieving the target of enrolling 50 lakh members. On the strength of a strong organisation, we are confident of winning the municipal polls, realising the dream of a triple-engine government — at the Centre, state and civic body levels,” said BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli.
In a smart move, the BJP has also decided that state ministers will sit in BJP offices thrice a week to address public grievances ahead of the elections.
