Construction of extension building resumes at Ambala Cantt Civil Hospital

Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Anil Vij said the construction of the extension building of Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital has been resumed. The minister said t this building would be equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and designed like a critical care unit (CCU). Additionally, the building has been designed to minimise infection risk for regular patients.

Vij said earlier, the construction came to a halt due to a case pending in the High Court, followed by arbitration proceedings. Now, after re-tendering, the balance work will be completed at a cost of Rs 14.79 crore. “The new building will help in decongesting the existing hospital and will be beneficial for the staff as well as the patients and their attendants. The 100-bedded building is being developed specifically as a Critical Care Unit to provide advanced medical support to patients in serious or emergency conditions. Critical care includes continuous monitoring of a patient’s condition, availability of essential medicines and equipment and timely medical decisions based on the patient’s status”, said Vij.

The minister said the new building would have a total of seven floors, including two basements. While one basement would be used for parking, the other would house an air conditioning plant and a gas plant. The ground floor would have a registration-cum-reception centre, emergency services, toilets and other essential amenities, while the first Floor would house emergency wards with 28 beds. The second floor would feature an intensive care unit (ICU), while the third floor would have an operation theatre (OT), super specialist OT, and patient wards. The fourth floor would also include OT, super specialist OT and wards, along with a life-saving critical care unit (CCU), said Vij.

The CCU will offer oxygen support, medication management, emergency procedures, post-care and recovery facilities. It will also have dedicated wards and facilities for Covid and other infectious diseases. The building is designed in a way that regular patients are not exposed to infection risks.

The construction work was started in August 2019 and was to be completed in two years but even after missing its deadline repeatedly, only about 25 per cent work was completed. The agency will get a period of 18 months to complete nearly 75 per cent of the remaining civil work.
