Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated a market at Totu in Shimla district to ensure that farmers get better prices for their cash crops and vegetables near there homes. The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, includes eight shops, auction platform, a 20-bed dormitory for farmers, a spacious hall for public events and other essential amenities.

The Chief Minister said that the market would greatly benefit farmers of various panchayats such as Dhami, Ghanahati, Majthai, Bagi, Dhamoon, Baichadi, Dhanda, Chail, Nehra, Devnagar, Glot, Jubbarhatti, Rampuri, Shakrah and Kalihatti. He added that to ensure fair prices to the farmers, the government was establishing regulated markets across the state.

Sukhu announced the opening of a Block Medical Office (BMO) and Rs 2 crore for the construction of the Badaheri-Shilli-Hiranagar road. He said that the state government was committed to strengthening the rural economy.

The Chief Minister said, “The previous BJP government’s financial mismanagement had resulted in increase in debt burden on the state but efforts are being made to generate additional revenue.”

Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil and Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh were present on the occasion.
