HPU students explore India’s audit legacy

Students from Himachal Pradesh University recently gained valuable insights into the evolution of transparency and accountability in Indian governance during their visit to the Chadwick House: Navigating Audit Heritage Museum in Shimla.

The educational tour was organised by the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare in collaboration with the museum authorities. The programme drew enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, who visited the museum in groups over five days to engage closely with its exhibits.

During the visit, students explored all 10 galleries of the museum, where they were introduced to a range of historical documents, rare audit artifacts and significant case studies. Museum officials guided them through the exhibits, offering detailed explanations and contextual information. Documentary screenings and interactive sessions further enriched the experience, helping students understand the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in ensuring financial accountability in public institutions.

Prof Mamta Mokta, Dean of Students’ Welfare, commended the museum staff for their efforts in making the visit informative and impactful. She emphasised that such exposure is vital for encouraging youth participation in good governance and for nurturing a deeper understanding of democratic systems among future leaders.
