Para-athlete felicitated for winning gold medal in international championship
Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta today honoured para-athlete Virendra Singh for his remarkable achievement in the International Para Athletics Championship held in Sharjah, UAE. Singh secured a gold medal in the 5000m race, making the country proud.
In a special felicitation ceremony, the DC presented a traditional Himachali shawl and cap to Singh, commending his dedication and resilience. “Virendra Singh has set an example for youth, proving that determination and hard work can overcome any obstacle. Despite facing numerous challenges, he has showcased unparalleled commitment and brought laurels to India,” said Khimta.
Hailing from remote Lagnu village in the Shri Renuka Ji Assembly constituency, Singh has defied physical limitations to achieve excellence in athletics. His success at the international level has made him a role model for aspiring athletes, especially those with disabilities.
Singh also won silver medals in the 1500m and 800 races, further strengthening India’s presence in para-athletics. His dedication to sports and his unwavering spirit have been widely appreciated across the state.
