Sirmaur’s Aasra Sanskritik Dal wins state-level folk dance competition

The Aasra Sanskritik Dal from Sirmaur district won the first prize in the state-level folk dance competition that was organised by the Department of Language and Culture in the historic Gaiety Theatre. The second prize was won by Surya Sanskritik Dal from Kullu while Kangra’s Vanshika Sanskritik Yuva Manch stood third.

Chief guest Divyanshu Singhal, acting director, said Himachal Pradesh’s culture was centuries-old and continues to thrive as it has been passed down generations. “The younger generation is actively working to preserve and promote their culture. Several programmes are held during the state’s fairs to showcase the culture of the state,” he said.

“The department provides platforms and opportunities to Himachali artists to perform both at national and international levels,” he added.

While praising the artists from various districts, he said every group presented exceptional performance. He also commended the performers for advancing their culture and encouraged them to continue working hard.

Cultural groups from various districts including Hamirpur, Lahaul-Spiti, Solan, Kangra, Sirmaur and Kinnaur performed during the competition. The judging panel included Vidya Nand Seraik, Dr Ram Swaroop Shandil, Dr Surat Thakur, Dr Hukam Sharma and Bihari Lal Sharma.
