BSF seized 12,300 kg drugs in 10 months; 96% from Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a whopping 12,300 kg narcotics between January and October 2024.

Out of this, 96 per cent of the seized narcotics (11,866 kg) was seized from the eastern front along the India-Bangladesh border while only 432 kg was recovered from the western front, comprising the India-Pakistan border, according to data released by the Border Security Force.

The BSF also downed and recovered 257 drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the western border during this period. Besides, 194 Bangladeshis were apprehended from the Indo-Bangladesh border between January and November, the data revealed further.

Illicit trade proceeds funding weapons supply in Manipur

Earlier this week, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi had pointed out in the Parliament that due to the ban imposed by Afghanistan on opium production, Myanmar had now become the largest opium producer in the world.

The MP said as a consequence, the eastern front of the country is under threat and highest amount of seizures were reported in Manipur. He further claimed proceeds from drug trade were being used for funding the procurement of illicit weapons in the troubled state.

He said between July 22 and July 23, contraband valued at around Rs 1,600 crore was seized in Manipur.
