Youth dies due to drug overdose

A young man died under in Kapurthala on Monday night, with initial investigations suggesting a possible drug overdose case. The deceased, identified as Hanspal Singh, a resident of Jhal -Thikriwal village, was brought unconscious to the Civil Hospital by his family, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to hospital sources, Hanspal was brought in an unresponsive state to the emergency ward late at night. Dr Moin Mohammad, who was on duty, conducted a medical examination and confirmed that the youth had already passed away.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjit Singh of Kotwali Police Station said the police received a call on emergency number 112 regarding the incident. A police team was immediately dispatched to the hospital and the body was taken into custody and placed in the hospital mortuary for the post-mortem examination.

"Preliminary evidence points to a drug overdose case as the likely cause of the death," ASI Manjit Singh stated.

DSP Deepkaran Singh confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway. “We are recording statements from the family and others known to the deceased. Further action will follow based on the post-mortem report,” he added.
