Kotkapura DSP Jatinderpal Singh on Saturday said, “During the investigation into Gurpreet’s murder, we uncovered evidence related to a Tinder account, prompting them to seek details from the app. So far, 12 out of the 16 accused in the case has been arrested, while Amritpal Singh and Arsh Dalla remain at large.”
Police sources said a suspicious account under the name “Amrit Sandhu” had been identified and suspected to be connected to Amritpal. The authorities have sought subscriber details, IP logs, chat history, media uploads and other relevant data from the past six years.
Gurpreet, a resident of Hari Nau village, was shot dead on October 9 last year while returning home from the village gurdwara on his motorcycle. He was a member of the “Behbal Kalan Insaaf Morcha” and “Waris Punjab De”, an organisation led by Amritpal. The police alleged Gurpreet’s murder was orchestrated by Canada-based designated terrorist Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dalla, at Amritpal’s behest.
According to the police chargesheet, Gurpreet, once a close aide of Amritpal, had knowledge of the MP’s alleged connections with gangster Jaipal Bhullar and terrorist Arsh Dalla.
Amritpal, who modelled himself after Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was arrested in April 2023 following a police crackdown. The operation was launched after his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station to secure the release of a detained associate.
