Abohar, November 19

The Abohar Municipal Corporation, which was notified by the state government before the bypolls, came into existence on Tuesday. SDM Poonam Singh took additional charge as Commissioner.

During the first informal meeting, the SDM motivated the staff to maintain record as per the guidelines and gear up for collection of long pending dues.

She said priority would be given to streamline sanitation system, besides repairing roads. She asked the citizens to pay taxes regularly. “We expect more funds for development works from the state government in the coming days,” she said.

This brings to an end nine-year rule of the BJP-SAD alliance in “A” grade Municipal Committee that was constituted as a notified urban committee in pre-Independence era by Britishers.

The BJP councillors Shiv Raj Goyal and Pramil Kalani, who served as the MC chiefs in the past, were booked by the Vigilance Bureau and City Police-1, respectively in alleged property scams.

Goyal was granted bail by the Additional District and Sessions Judge last year, Kalani’s plea for an anticipatory bail was recently accepted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Kalani had quit office on March 10, 2018 and also resigned as a member. The duo had refuted the allegations.
