The much-delayed Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is scheduled to be held on August 21. The interim committee, which was authorised to run the sport, has announced the dates of the Annual General Meeting that will elect the new executive committee.

“This is to inform you that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boxing Federation of India will be held on 21.08.2025 at Delhi-NCR at 11:00 am. The members states/UT association are requested to send names of their two representatives as per the provisions of BFI’s constitution as approved by the World Boxing to BFI’s office email before 5pm on 04.08.2025,” the election notice signed by Ajay Singh, who is the chairman of interim committee, said.

There are only three agenda items for the AGM -- confirmation of minutes of the previous meeting, election of various posts for the term 2025-2029, and any other item with the permission of the chair.

The previous BFI office-bearers’ tenure, which was headed by Singh, ended on February 2 and the elections were called for March 28 but internal bickering led to legal disputes and that stalled the entire process.

Singh, as president of the BFI, erased former sports minister Anurag Thakur’s name from the electoral roll as he was not an elected member of Himachal Pradesh’s boxing unit. This led to a long legal battle and the elections had to be stopped after Thakur was successful in getting a stay order.

The BFI then suspended secretary general Hemanta Kalita and treasurer Digvijay Singh for financial irregularities. The World Boxing then appointed the Interim Committee to manage sport and set a 90-day deadline (till August 31) for the elections to be conducted.
