Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav continued to create ripples in the political space on Friday stating that the party found little merit in withdrawing outside support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, but foresaw early polls.

"Now there is no question of SP withdrawing support to the UPA government. Why withdraw support and make the government fall when it's a matter of just eight-nine months? "— Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP chief

The Supreme Court has upheld the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s ruling that any will not signed by two witnesses and un-registered was “only a piece of paper in the eyes of law, having no legal effect.” A Bench comprising Justices RM Lodha and Anil R Dave endorsed the HC’s view while dismissing a petition filed by a person claiming ownership to the entire property of his father despite the fact that he had seven siblings.

Now, university chairs in Nobel laureates’ name

For the first time in the academic history of the country, the Government has decided to salute the contributions made by Indian Nobel laureates by instituting university chairs in their names. A decision in this respect was taken at the last meeting of the Full Commission of the UGC which will steer this ambitious project in the form of one of its schemes.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on Friday.Finance Minister P Chidambaram today reached out to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and promised more Central funds to the state. Chidambaram was closeted in a meeting with Akhilesh in Lucknow for nearly 40 minutes this morning where the two discussed development projects and means to expedite these in the state.

Mumbai cop assault case
CCTV footage inconclusive; MLAs may go scot-free
Mumbai, March 29
Two Maharashtra MLAs who have been accused of assaulting a police sub-inspector inside the state secretariat building may escape scot-free as the footage from the CCTVs installed within the premises does not clearly show the assault. Relevant clippings from the 28 CCTV cameras installed inside the building do not clearly show the MLAs, Kshitij Thakur and Ram Kadam, beating up Sub-Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil told reporters here.

The Human Resource Development Ministry has initiated an inquiry to find out who really owns the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the Aakash tablet project.
