The Kangra district Congress has taken exception to the laying of the foundation stone of a Tribal Bhawan in Nurpur by Forest Minister Rakesh Pathania. The party said that it was ridiculous that the minister laid the foundation stone in haste, without even procuring an NOC from his own department and without getting the identified land transferred in the name of the Schedule Tribes (ST) Department.

District Congress chief Ajay Mahajan said the bhawan had been proposed during the Virbhadra Singh regime and its stone was laid in December 2017 at Jassur near Nurpur. “Before laying the stone, all formalities were completed. Now, after scrapping the tender, the same project is being shifted to Nurpur saying that the earlier site was in a flood-prone area,” he said. Mahajan questioned if the site was in a flood-prone area, why Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had laid the foundation stone of the Jassur bus stand adjoining it. — TNS
