Citing the teachings of the first Sikh master Guru Nanak, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday evening said, “Secularism alone can unite communities and nations.”

He was speaking after he released a coffee table book, “Jewels of Punjab”.

Manmohan Singh said the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak is the time to remember what he taught on secularism.

Former chairman of National Minorities Commission Tarlochan Singh described Manomhan Singh as the “biggest jewel in the world”.

International president of the World Punjabi Organisation Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who is behind this book, said it marked the 550th birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru.

The persons featured in the book include former Chief Justice JS Khehar, cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, former chairman of Punjab National Bank SS Kohli, former Army Chief General JJ Singh, Punjab Cabinet minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Taranjit Singh Dhesi, Member of Parliament from the UK, among others. The book comprises autobiographies of some of the outstanding Punjabi NRIs from different fields, including the most famous and richest Indian entrepreneurs in the US, UK, Canada, Africa, etc.

The book also features 75 Punjabi families across 19 countries. A short film on Guru Nanak, “TheMystic Master”, that is scripted by Navtej Sarna and directed by Sahney, was also released.
