The 61st game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 14.

The four-time champions finally broke the suspense on their special surprise after their high-octane clash against Kolkata. The special surprise was a lap of honour around the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Despite things not going Chennai’s way, the team, led by MS Dhoni, ran around the ground to thank the crowd for their massive support.

Most likely playing his final IPL, Dhoni was seen with a racquet in hand as he hit some balls into the crowd for the fans. Furthermore, he also tossed a few jerseys into the crowd. Even the authorities and opposition players came up to Dhoni to get his autograph. Former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar was also seen taking an autograph from the legendary skipper.

RInku Singh-Nitish Rana lead KKR to emphatic win against CSK

Talking about the game, things didn't go as planned for Chennai. Coming in to bat first after winning the toss, the four-time champions got off to a subpar start to the game as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway were unable to make as much of an impact. However, through a resilient, unbeaten knock by Shivam Dube, who scored 48* runs in 34 balls, Chennai managed to post 144 runs on the board.

Coming in to chase the target, Deepak Chahar’s brilliant spell completely overpowered Kolkata’s top-order. Taking the wickets of Jason Roy, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Venkatesh Iyer, Chahar dismantled the batting attack of the two-time champions.

However, it was the brilliant knocks by Rinku Singh and skipper Nitish Rana that helped Kolkata register a fabulous win. Rinku amassed 54 runs in 43 deliveries. Whereas Nitish Rana played an unbeaten knock of 57 runs in 44 balls. Their partnership helped Kolkata win the game by six wickets and keep their hopes alive for a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.
