Chennai Super Kings rewrote history as they defeated Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Winning their fifth IPL title, Chennai’s success could be credited to the leadership of legendary skipper MS Dhoni.

A picture of the Chennai skipper is doing rounds on several social media platforms in which he can be seen holding the 'Bhagavad Gita' in hand. He played an instrumental role in helping Chennai win their fifth IPL title in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league. The Chennai skipper is expected to undergo knee surgery soon.

Throughout the IPL 2023, Dhoni was nursing an injury to his left knee. The injury did not pose him any problems behind the stumps; however, the 41-year-old was visibly distraught while batting. The knee injury forced him to bat pretty deep down the order, and he had issues while running between the wickets as well.

It was recently revealed by Chennai CEO Kasi Viswanathan that Dhoni would be taking medical advice for his knee, and if a surgery is needed, then it would be the skipper’s call if he wants to go ahead with it.

Chennai Super Kings clinch fifth IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets

Talking about the IPL 2023 final, Gujarat Titans came into bat first after losing the toss. Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, and Sai Sudharsan put in excellent performances with the bat. Gill scored 39 runs in 20 balls; Saha scored a brilliant half-century, amassing 54 runs in 39 balls; and Sudharsan took centre stage, scoring 96 runs in 47 deliveries.

After the first innings, Gujarat posted a mammoth target of 215 runs on the board for Chennai to chase. Coming in to bat in the second innings, rain played spoilsport once again, and the MS Dhoni-led side got a revised DLS target of 171 runs to chase down in 15 overs.

Chasing a big target, Chennai delivered the goods. Putting in a magnificent showing with the bat, Chennai chased the target down and won the game by five wickets to become five-time IPL champions.
