Authorities have identified Dr Umar Nabi, a doctor from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, as the driver of the car that exploded, killing at least 12 people and injuring 20. DNA samples from his mother have been collected to confirm his identity.
The blast occurred shortly after authorities arrested eight people, including three doctors, and seized 2,900 kg of explosives in a “white-collar” terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Among the arrested were Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and Dr. Shaheen Sayeed from Al Falah University in Faridabad, where 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered. Shaheen reportedly led the women’s recruitment wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed in India.
Investigators believe Dr Umar, who also had connections to Al Falah University, carried explosives—possibly ammonium nitrate—in a Hyundai i20. He is suspected of acting alone, fearing arrest like his associates, and a suicide attack has not been ruled out. Preliminary findings indicate the blast involved ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators.
Authorities have also arrested a man named Tariq from Pulwama, who reportedly provided the vehicle used in the attack. Multiple raids and interrogations are ongoing in Delhi and Kashmir, with heightened security at airports, railway stations, bus terminals, and other key locations.
CCTV footage shows a masked man driving the car, and police are reviewing surveillance from nearby areas, including parking lots where the vehicle was left for several hours. The Red Fort Metro Station remains closed, and traffic diversions are in place.
The deceased have been partially identified as Ashok Kumar (34) from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and Amar Kataria (35) from Delhi. Victims’ ages range from 28 to 58. Among the injured, 12 are from Delhi, while the rest are from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.
Body parts were everywhere: Locals recount horror after Delhi blast
November 11, 2025 6:12 pm
Body parts lay scattered, with some fragments even reaching the nearby Jain Mandir, leaving locals terrified and sleepless through the night. The powerful explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday killed 12 people and left several injured, rattling one of the city's most crowded and historic neighbourhoods. Karamjot, who sells bags in Chandni Chowk, recalled the chaos that unfolded moments after the blast. "I saw a large number of people running towards me from the Red Fort side. Everyone was screaming. I ran towards the gurdwara and took shelter there until things calmed down," she said. JP Mishra, an employee at the Jain Mandir sports club, said locals rushed to help the injured before emergency teams arrived. "When I reached the spot, I saw dismembered bodies everywhere. Some of the body parts even came under my feet," he said, his voice trembling. Another eyewitness, 45-year-old Karmayta Devi, who lives near the Jain Mandir, said her family could not sleep the entire night. "It felt like an earthquake. The ground was shaking. My 15-year-old son, who saw the bodies lying around, was terrified. Some parts of the bodies even flew into the Jain Mandir compound," she recounted. Ten-year-old Priya, who lives close to the Red Fort, said the blast was so strong that the cement from the ceiling of her house fell off. "Our school is closed today. We couldn't sleep the whole night. I have never heard such a loud sound before," she said softly.

UK updates travel advisory after Delhi explosion, urges caution
November 11, 2025 4:48 pm
The UK has updated its travel advisory for British nationals travelling to India after the explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) update calls on its nationals in Delhi to follow the advice of the local authorities. “There has been an explosion at the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station, New Delhi,” reads the FCDO update for India. “If you're in the immediate area follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media,” it adds. The FCDO country-based advisory is a guidance on travel rather than a government-imposed regulation. It is intended to flag risks for travellers in order to make "informed decisions" and could lead to travel insurance being invalidated if the advice is overlooked. The rest of the advisory for India remains unchanged, advising against all travel within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border, “except for at Wagah where travellers can cross the border”. Travel warnings also remain in place for British nationals for Kashmir and Manipur regions. PTI
