Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till noon on Monday following protests by opposition parties demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Later, the Lower House was adjourned till 2 pm. Finally, it was adjourned for the day.

After the House paid tributes to five departed former members and congratulated the women cricket team and other sportspersons who brought laurels, the opposition started the protests pressing for their demands.

Speaker Om Birla said this was the first day of the Winter session and he expected that there should be a positive and active participation by the members in the debate and discussions.

However, the opposition members ignored the pleas and continued the protests, leading to adjournment of proceedings. (With PTI)

Govt seeks LS nod for Rs 41,455 cr extra expenditure in FY26

The government on Monday sought Parliament's nod for net additional spending of Rs 41,455 crore in the current fiscal, which includes over Rs 18,000 crore expenditure towards fertiliser subsidy. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2025-26 in the Lok Sabha. It seeks Parliament's approval for a gross additional expenditure of Rs 1.32 lakh crore. This includes proposals with a net cash outgo of Rs 41,455.39 crore and gross additional expenditure, matched by savings of the Ministries/Departments of Rs 90,812 crore.
