10 injured in road accident on Tarn Taran-Patti road

Ten passengers were injured in a road accident on the Tarn Taran-Patti road near Rasulpur canal in the early morning hours on Friday when a Punjab Roadways bus coming from Patti collided head on with a truck. Four of the injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital, while the one who was seriously injured, was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. Six of the injured were discharged on the spot after giving first aid at a nearby private hospital.

The bus was going to Chandigarh. Randhir Singh (36), driver of the bus, who was among the injured, said he applied brakes of his vehicle on seeing a tree which fell on the road during storm and heavy rain last night. He said the bus did not stop and collided with truck. The truck overturned after the collision. The normal traffic on the road was disrupted after the accident.

Officials from the Sadar police reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. Besides Randhir Singh, three passengers identified as Lakhwinder Singh (41) of Tarn Taran, Sukhdev Singh (42) of Saidpur (Patti) and Sham Sunder (Muktsar) are under treatment at the Civil Hospital. Sham Sunder was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The police have initiated probe into the matter.
