11 more file nomination papers on last day

On the last day of filing of nomination papers for the Tarn Taran Assembly constituency, 11 more candidates jumped into the fray on Tuesday.

The number of candidates who have filed their nominations for the Tarn Taran by-election till today has reached 26. Returning Officer-cum-SDM, Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh said that today, independent candidates Lakha Singh, Gurmeet Kaur, Jaswant Singh, Karanbir Singh of the Indian National Congress, independent candidates Harpreet Singh, Sarika Jaura, Harpal Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sanjeev Singh and Mandeep Singh filed two set of nomination papers.

Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh said that earlier, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu, AAP covering candidate Rajesh Walia, BJP candidate Harjit Singh Sandhu, BJP covering candidate Sucha Singh, Congress candidate Karanbir Singh, Congress party's covering candidate Leena Sandhu, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur and SAD covering candidate Kanchanpreet Kaur, Sachho Sach Party candidate Sham Lal Gandhi, Akhil Bharatiya Shiv Sena Nationalist candidate Arun Kumar Khurmi, independent candidates Harpal Singh, Harbrinder Kaur, Komalpreet Singh, Neetu, Vijay Kumar, Mandeep Singh, Nirmal Kaur, Jaswant Singh and Nationalist Justice Party candidate Naib Singh had filed their papers.

The Returning Officer further informed that the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 22 while October 24 is the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. He informed that the elections will be held on November 11, and the counting of votes will be done on November 14. Along with this, the entire election process would be completed by November 16, the RO said.
