A district health team issued challans to 12 cigarette vendors for flouting the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and six individuals for flouting the ban on smoking in public places.

Nodal officer for the National Tobacco Control Program Dr Jaganjot Kaur said selling loose cigarettes and tobacco products to minors in an area within 100 yards of the premises of an educational institute are offences punishable under the COTPA.
