The Punjab Government will set up a 125 MW solar power plant in 500 acres at Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Plant, Goindwal Sahib, to provide better supply of electricity in the summer season.

Harbhajan Singh ETO, Minister for Power, Government of Punjab, said this during his visit to the thermal plant at Goindwal Sahib. ETO said that two units of 270 MW are functional at this thermal plant and the overhauling of one unit has been completed while the overhauling of another unit will be completed by May 10.

The minister said that keeping in mind the paddy season, this thermal plant will ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity. He said that all thermal plants of the state have excess coal stock and Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Plant at Goindwal Sahib currently has 41 days of coal left in stock.

The minister said that the Punjab Government has decided to send 10 new engineers to increase the capacity of this thermal plant. He said that considerable improvements have been made by the Punjab Government to increase the efficiency of this thermal plant and its PLF load which was 7 per cent earlier, has been increased to 77 per cent. Principal Secretary Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Director Generation Harjit Singh, Director Finance Surinder Kumar Beri, Director Distribution Inderpal Singh, Chief Engineer, Lehra Mohabbat, MR Bansal and Chief Engineer, Ropar, Harish Kumar Sharma were present on the occasion.
