According to the police, they used to supply weapons smuggled from Pakistan via drones to gangsters across Punjab at the behest of their Pakistan-based handlers.

The CI had specific inputs that the duo had recently received a large consignment of illegal arms and ammunition from across the border. The informer told that the suspects were travelling on a bike (PB-02-DC-1197) in the Khasa area with the consignment.

Police teams were immediately dispatched and the accused intercepted near Khasa on the Amritsar-Attari road. During a search, three 9 mm Glock pistols, four PX5 pistols and one .30 bore pistol were seized from their possession. The police also impounded the motorcycle being used by them. An FIR under the Arms Act and the BNS was registered at the SSOC police station here.

As per a preliminary probe, the duo was in touch with Pakistan-based smuggler Noor of Manihala. He sneaked in the weapon consignment in Bhaini Rajputtan village area with the help of drones.

The Gharinda police, meanwhile, arrested Dheeraj Sharma of Ahmadgarh, Sangrur, and seized two Glock pistols and three other weapons from him. The police said he used to sell firearms to criminals in Amritsar and its adjoining areas. The police also impounded his car.
