The Amritsar rural police confiscated 770 litres of industrial alcohol and arrested two persons in this connection here on Saturday. Those arrested were identified as Harjit Singh of Rampura village and Shindar Singh of Jheete Kalan village. The police also impounded the Bolero Pickup truck (PB-46-W-1247) used by them. A case under the Excise Act was registered against them.

A preliminary probe revealed that they had pilfered the industrial alcohol from a truck in Zirakpur near Chandigarh. The police were trying to identify the truck driver who supplied the same to them. The alcohol was meant to be supplied to a distillery, said Amritsar rural SSP Swarndeep Singh.
