Apart from 23 mobile phones, including 10 touchscreen phones, the jail officials confiscated 9 SIM cards, seven chargers, a head phone, four data cables, two batteries and two adaptors from the jail complex.

The sneaking of mobile phones and other prohibited materials into the jail complex has been a problem area for the authorities. Most items were thrown by miscreants from outside. The government has contemplated a number of steps to curb the menace, but they are yet to materialise.

Meanwhile, the police have also booked another notorious criminal lodged in the jail, identified as Nirmal Singh alias Nimma aka Dehla. Dehla is the brother of Nirvail Singh Nehla who was arrested by the Kathunangal police yesterday. They had around 20 criminal cases against them.

Prabhdayal Singh, Assistant Superintendent (Jail), said that Dehla scuffled with the jail staff and used abusive language. He obstructed the jail staff from discharging their duties.
