Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsWhile busting two trans-border weapon smuggling modules, the Amritsar police have confiscated seven pistols and arrested four operatives, including a juvenile, in this connection.
"The weapons were meant to fuel gang rivalries and disrupt peace in the region," said DGP Gaurav Yadav on X.
He said during preliminary probe, it was found that they were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers and recently retrieved a consignment of weapons from the Indo-Pak border.
Those arrested have been identified as Sikanderjeet Singh of Bhagwanpura village in Tarn Taran, a juvenile of Mastgarh village in Tarn Taran, Pradeep Singh, alias Babbi, of Antarjami Colony and Jarnail Singh of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar in Amritsar.
The police recovered seven pistols — one 9 mm, four .30 bore, including Glock, and two .32 bore — 6 live cartridges and a motorcycle.
Further investigation is under way to trace backward and forward linkages, said the DGP.
