Five kilometres of the road heading from Doburji village to Kotli village, on which Rataul village falls, has been lying damaged for the past many years. Though the administration is aware of the road condition, it has not reconstructed the stretch.

Rataul is the native village (birth place) of Shaheed Bhai Mahan Singh on whose request tenth Sikh master Sri Guru Gobind Singh had torn the “Bedawa” (a document of dissent).

The damaged road heading from Doburji to Kotli via Rataul village has been lying damaged since past many years. Harjit Singh Rataul, Makhan Singh Rataul, Varinder Singh Rataul, Sangat Singh Doburji, Pardeep Singh and other residents of the affected villages said they had approached officials of the department concerned for renovation of the road, but no step was taken by them in this regard.

Residents said frequent waterlogging had damaged link road at Doburji which is on the Tarn Taran-Amritsar GT road. The people said this link road was in poor condition at Kotli village. Its residents preferred to come in and out of their village via Kakka Kandiala village after covering a distance of more than 2 km.

Residents said the road was repaired 10 years ago. Since then it had not been reconstructed. When contacted, Narinder Singh, SDO, Mandi Board, said this road had been enlisted by NABARD for renovation after recommendation of Tarn Taran MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal. He said the road would be reconstructed soon.
