5 operatives of Dony Bal, Ghanshampuria gang nabbed after encounter in Amritsar

The CIA staff of Amritsar rural police on Monday arrested five members of foreign-based gangsters Dony Bal, Prabh Dasuwal and Mann Ghanshampuria in Lopoke area here following an encounter.

According to officials, one of the accused, Khushpreet Singh of Bhurwala village in Patti, was injured in retaliatory fire by the police.

The other accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh of Dhagsna, Chandan Singh of Chuslewar, Jashanpreet Singh of Sito Mai Jhugua and Gurmanpreet Singh of Kula Chowk Patti, all in Tarn Taran district.

Meanwhile, the police also recovered a .32 bore pistol, 10 live cartridges and five mobile phones, beside a Verna car was seized from the scene.

Amritsar Rural SSP Charanjit Singh said the police had got a tip-off about the movement of associates of US-based gangster Balwinder Singh alias Dony Bal and Portugal-based Manpreet Singh alias Mann Ghanshampuria.

“Officials had signaled a car, with Haryana registration number, to stop at a checkpost in Lopoke subdivision, however the occupants fired at the police team and tried to flee,” said the SSP.

As the police team were chasing them, the car of the accused got stuck following which Khushpreet opened fire on the team. In retaliatory firing, he was injured. All the accused were arrested.

As per preliminary investigation, Khushpreet was wanted in a firing case in Tarn Taran. Further investigation is under way, he added.
