The Municipal Corporation is successfully running Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres for dog sterilisation in the city and 8,500 dogs have been sterilised till date. Municipal Commissioner Harpreet Singh said that the MC has established two dog sterilisation centres at Animal Birth Control Centre, Naraingarh Chheharta and the second at Animal Birth Control Centre, Fatehgarh Shukkarchak village for the sterilisation of stray dogs.

A tender was floated by the Municipal Corporation for the sterilisation of 20,000 stray dogs from August 2023 to August 2025 and the work is still in progress. Till date, 8,500 stray dogs have been sterilised in different parts of the city. At present, stray dogs from Central, East and South Assembly constituency areas have been sterilised. A separate tractor-trailer has also been put on duty with a team to catch dogs and redress the complaints of the public. After treatment, these dogs are kept with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Hathi Gate.

Municipal Commissioner Harpreet Singh said that the main objective of the project is to sterilise the stray dogs but they can’t be dislocated. He said the Municipal Corporation is doing its best to resolve the complaints and it can only be possible with the cooperation of the public.
