Amritsar, July 9
The city police arrested nine alleged drug peddlers and recovered narcotic substances from their possession on Friday.
Accused Mohit Kumar of Gilwali Gate and Saurabh Malhotra of Fateh Singh Colony were arrested for allegedly possessing 10-gm heroin. The police also recovered Rs 5.28 lakh alleged drug proceeds from them. SHO Gurmeet Singh said they received a tip-off that they were involved in drug peddling in various areas in the city. He said they were produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
Similarly, Gate Hakima police arrested Manjit Singh of Fatahpur Adda and recovered 15-gm heroin from him. Arshdeep Singh of Fatahpur and Shawan of Indra Colony in Mustafabad were nabbed by the police for possessing 10-gm and 45-gm heroin respectively. The police also seized a scooter from Arshdeep. Sukhraj Singh of Gumtala bypass and Ranjit Singh of Bhai Manjh Singh Road were held with 10-gm heroin each.
Meanwhile, Hardev Singh of Nangli village was arrested by Sadar police with 550 intoxicating tablets. A prisoner, Karan Kumar was caught by Amritsar Central Jail staff with 100 sedative pills during surprise checking.
