Admn initiates steps to make residents aware of Covid-19

The district administration has said it has taken all possible steps to make residents aware of coronavirus.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of Covid infection are severe fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, congestion in nose and throat.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal said it was a matter of great satisfaction that no case of Covid-19 had been reported from the district. He said the administration was ready to deal with any situation.
The DC said a meeting of officials of various government departments, including health, with representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), hotels and restaurants were convened. They have been asked to ensure proper precautions in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. He said officials had been instructed to keep a close watch on air passengers having a travel history of affected countries.
The district administration has launched an initiative in which health officials are making students aware of Covid-19. The officials are keeping vigil at crowded places, including bus stands, railways stations and shopping malls.
What is Covid
- It is identified to be a new type of Covid (Novel Coronoavirus, 2019-nCoV, now known as COVID-19). These are large family of viruses with some causing less severe disease such as common cold and others more severe diseases such as MERS and SARS.
Besides, a six-bed Isolation ward has been set up at the local Civil Hospital. The Health Department has also set up 11 flu corners at all civil hospitals. As many as 11 rapid response teams have been constituted in the district.
Dr Inder Mohan Gupta, SMO, Civil Hospital, said the isolation ward was being cleansed with antiseptic liquid every day. The DC added that residents could contact nodal officer Dr Bidhi Lord Singh on his phone no. 94637-71765 and District Epidemiologist Dr Swarnjit Dhawan on 98140-27847 for any consultation.
Awareness event forpolice officials
Amritsar: A seminar to create awareness about coronavirus among police officials was organised by the Health Department at the Civil Lines auditorium on Friday. It was attended by station house officers, police post in-charges and other officials from the Police Commissionerate attended the seminar.
Safety measures
- Wash hands well and continually with water and soap or other hand disinfectants, especially after coughing, sneezing.
- Avoid contact with patients and use masks if you are sick or visiting sick patients.
- Avoid touching your eyes or nose as much as possible.
- Use tissue when coughing or sneezing. After that, wash your hands properly. If there is no tissue, it is preferred to cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
- Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating them.
- Maintain other healthy habits such as balanced diet, physical activity and getting enough sleep.
- Avoid direct contact with infected patients or anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Avoid shaking hands and wash hands frequently with soap and water. Hand rubs can also be used.
- Avoid taking medicine without consulting a doctor.
- Avoid touching surfaces
like railings and doors/gates frequently.
District Epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said it was important for the police personnel to be aware of “do’s and don’ts” related to Covid-19 as they come in contact with a large number of people. He said the officials must also sensitise their colleagues. Dr Mohan said in case of symptoms of infection, one should consult medical specialist and not rely on home remedies. He appreciated the move of the police to display posters to create awareness among the public about the disease.
