After completion of the ‘sewa’ as part of ‘tankhah’ (religious punishment), the Akali leaders from the ‘rebel’ group — Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Gurpartap Singh Wadala (head of ‘SAD Sudhar Lehar’ and Surjit Singh Rakhra — paid obeisance at the Akal Takht on Monday.

Chandumajra also submitted a separate letter of ‘clarification’ to the Akal Takht regarding the allegations leveled against him on his role in Operation Black Thunder, that took place in late 1980s.

He said they have come to the Akal Takht to convey about the successful completion of the ‘tankah’ awarded to them.

“We have come for completion of our atonement for the mistakes that were committed by us (knowingly or unknowingly) while being part of the SAD government in the past. Akal Takht has certified it,” said Chandumajra.

A heated exchange was witnessed between Chandumajra and SAD leader Maheshinder Singh over this matter during their appearance before the five high priests on December 2.

“What Maheshinder Singh had pointed out against me was baseless. I have submitted a letter to the Akal Takht that Maheshinder should have refrained from openly leveling false allegations against me, in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the devotees, without verifying the facts,” said Chandumajra.

Meanwhile, Jagir Kaur questioned the SAD leadership for not complying with the orders of Akal Takht regarding the acceptance of resignations of Sukhbir Singh Badal and other leaders.

On December 2, the five high priests headed by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, had held them guilty of religious misconduct for taking controversial decisions during SAD's tenure from 2007 to 2017.
