Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has announced to the confer title of “Jilawatan Sikh Yodha” (Sikh warrior in-exile) on Dal Khalsa founder Gajinder Singh during a religious ceremony held at Akal Takht here on Saturday. He died of a heart attack at a hospital in Pakistan recently.

Gajinder Singh was one of the five men accused of hijacking an Indian Airlines plane to Lahore in 1981.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with the support of Dal Khalsa organised an Akhand Path at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbaksh Singh in which the Akal Takht Jathedar, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and Dal Khalsa office-bearers participated. Gajinder Singh’s brother, Darshan Singh, and other family members were felicitated with siropa. Dal Khalsa leader Kanwarpal Singh said Gajinder Singh spent 53 years of his life in struggle and suffered many tortures. He belongs to the entire Khalsa panth, he added.
