They were identified as Fateh Singh and Gurpreet Singh, both residents of Dhalla village in Tarn Taran, said DGP Gaurav Yadav in a statement issued here on Friday. The police recovered five sophisticated pistols including two .30 bore PX5 pistols and three .30 bore star marked pistols from their possession.
“The Tarn Taran wing of Counter Intelligence received reliable inputs that the duo have established relations with Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Amar of Gharak in Pakistan, who is using drones to deliver the weapons consignments from across the border,” DGP said.
As per the information they have recently retrieved a huge consignment of illegal arms and ammunition from international border. They were going to deliver the same near Government School of Eminence at Naraingarh in Amritsar.
“Acting swiftly the CI launched an operation and arrested Fateh Singh and Gurpreet Singh with weapon consignment” he said.
Preliminary probe revealed that they were in contact with Pakistan-based weapon smuggler Amar who along with his associates was working at the behest of Gangsters Lakhbir Singh Landa and Satta Naushera of district Tarn Taran. They were supplying the illegal weapons to their associates here with the help of drones for carrying out the nefarious activities.
A case under Section 25, 25(1)(A), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act and section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered with State Special Operation Cell (Amritsar) in this regard. Further probe was on to establish their forward linkages.
