A total of 29 boys and 19 girls’ teams from various departments showcased their athletic prowess in the spirited event. In the boys section, the department of electronics secured the top position, department of physics got the second place and the department of computer science got the third spot. The MYAS GNDU department of sports sciences and medicine displayed commendable performance, securing the fourth position. In the girls’ section, the department of law emerged victorious, followed by the USFS (2nd place) and the department of physics got the third spot. The department of computer engineering secured the fourth position. Dr Bimaldeep Singh, head, department of law, said GNDU inter-department sports competitions reflects the university’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, camaraderie, and a culture of healthy competition among its diverse academic departments
New Book released
A new book ‘Global Sustainable Development for Quality Living—Now and After’ was released today at Khalsa College of Education (KCE) by Khalsa College governing council secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina. The book is a joint work of Dr Harpreet Kaur, Dr Manpreet Kaur, and Dr Amandeep Kaur and highlights the new challenges before the world relating sustainable development. Chhina said poverty, hunger, education, health disparities, environmental degradation, gender inequalities and financial crisis are major challenges today. And to meet these challenges, there is need to craft an inclusive, holistic and comprehensive roadmap. Dr Harpreet said the book is a step towards compiling the ideas and suggestions of economists, educationists, psychologists, sociologists, technologists, scientists and philosophers from across the nation.
Inter-varsity Pencak Silat C’ship
All-India Inter-University Pencak Silat Championship was inaugurated today in the multipurpose hall of Guru Nanak Dev University. The event features both men’s and women’s categories, with over 50 teams from different universities. The championship, boasting a participation of around 500 talented players, promises to be a presentation of skill, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh, in-charge sports, highlighted the importance of such platforms in fostering a spirit of healthy competition and unity among universities. He expressed optimism about the championship providing a stage for budding athletes to showcase their prowess in Pencak Silat, a traditional martial art form. The All-India Inter-University Pencak Silat Championship not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages excellence in the sporting arena.
Youth Day celebrated at DAVC
“Competition Singhnad 2024” dedicated to National Youth Day was successfully completed under the joint aegis of Vivekananda Kendra Amritsar branch and DAV College, Amritsar. Students from 15 reputed colleges and schools of Amritsar district participated in it. District convener from the centre, Dr Rajni Dogra Chhabda, said the objective of this innovative recitation competition of Vivekananda’s thoughts was to introduce the students to the life and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda so that by getting inspiration from them they can learn to be successful by converting life’s challenges into opportunities. Yogesh of Shahzadanand College stood first, Gauri Narang of Khalsa College Education stood second, and Aanchal of DAV College Education stood third. Participation certificates were given to all the contestants.
National Voters’ Day observed
Global Group of Institutes organised a presentation on the occasion of National Voters’ Day today. Students from different departments participated in the presentation and expressed their views on poll reforms, right to vote and significance of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Celebrated every year on 25th of January, National Voters’ Day is observed to create awareness among citizens about the importance of their vote for the nation. The day is celebrated to encourage all eligible Indians to register as voters and exercise their franchise to elect the regime of their choice. The theme of the day, Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure; exhorts every eligible voter to dutifully vote and spread awareness amongst all for informed participation in the electoral process. The winners and runner-up teams were awarded certificates and cash prizes at the culmination of the programme by the campus director of Global Group of Institutes MS Saini.
