Amritsar hooch tragedy: Majitha DSP, SHO suspended for gross negligence

Punjab Government on Tuesday suspended Majitha DSP Amolak Singh and SHO Avtar Singh for gross negligence in connection with the Amritsar hooch tragedy.

Departmental inquiries have been initiated against both officers, confirmed DGP Gaurav Yadav in a post on X.  He said that nine persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“Nine persons including the kingpin of the racket and several local distributors have been arrested in connection with the illicit liquor trade. Methanol after being procured online was used for spurious liquor manufacture, investigation is underway to uncover the entire modus operandi and to bring all involved to justice,” the DGP said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS and Excise Act.
