Amritsar MC completes delimitation survey

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has completed the survey of delimitation of wards. The report of the survey would be submitted to the state government soon.

The Director, Local Governments Department, had asked to suggest names of five councillors for the list of associate member for the Delimitation Board for deliberation on delimitation issues. Names of councillors Priyanka Sharma, Balwinder Singh Gill, Arvind Sharma, Aman Airi, Sandeep Rinka were sent to the Delimitation Board. The names of Ritesh Sharma and Gurnam Lahiri are already included in the board as associate members.

The delimitation survey started on June 15 and was supposed to be competed within one or two weeks. However, it took around six months to complete it.

The MC had deployed 300 employees and 10 sector officers for field surveys. The city was divided into 700 blocks for the survey. After completing the survey in October, the senior MC officials found that there were several errors in the report as a large number of houses were not visited.

In the last two months, Hardeep Singh, Joint Commissioner, MC, personally visited the field, along with the higher officials, sector officers and employees and rectified the errors. Now, the officials claimed that they have surveyed all the households in the MC jurisdiction. The map is almost ready after completing the survey.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said the survey has been completed and the map would be sent to the Delimitation Board at Chandigarh. Now, the Delimitation Board would decide how many wards would be constituted in the city and which wards would be reserved for the general, women, scheduled castes and BC categories. Objections will also be heard before the final decision of delimitation.
