Amritsar police bust cross-border drug cartel, seize heroin and pistol

The police have arrested 5 individuals and seized 2.251 kg heroin and Rs 1.05 lakh drug money

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Amritsar police have arrested five individuals and seized 2.251 kg heroin, Rs 1.05 lakh in drug money, and a modern Glock pistol. A Cruze car was also confiscated from the accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kiratpal Singh alias Kirat, Karanbir Singh alias Karan, Sukhdeep Singh alias Sukh, Pyara Singh, and Pankaj Verma. According to Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the heroin consignments were smuggled into India via drones from Pakistan.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a France-based individual, Sikandar Singh, has links with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. Singh was in contact with one of the accused, Karanbir Singh, through social media.

The heroin consignments were allegedly sent via drones from Pakistan to the border areas of Gurdaspur.

The police are conducting a detailed investigation to uncover the entire drug supply network, including suppliers, dealers, and buyers. Efforts are also being made to determine the total quantity of drugs purchased and distributed by the arrested individuals.

A case under Sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at the Islamabad police station. Further investigation is underway.
