Two Sri Lankan nationals, Kanishka and Sumardhan, were rescued by the Amritsar police from kidnappers in Hoshiarpur. The victims were part of a group of six Sri Lankan citizens who were lured by fake travel agents promising work visas for Albania.

According to Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the victims arrived in India on December 2 and were in Delhi when they met a Sri Lankan national, Asitha, who introduced them to two Indian nationals. The accused took 3,000 US dollars from the victims in exchange for providing work visas.

On December 27, the accused called the victims, claiming to have procured visas for Kanishka and Sumardhan, and instructed them to come to Amritsar. The two Indians, Ankit and Inderjit Singh, picked up the victims from the bus stand in a car and demanded an additional 8,000 Euros for their release.

The other victims approached the Division A police, seeking help to rescue their friends. The police identified the kidnappers and recovered the victims within hours. Ankit and Inderjit Singh were arrested, while their third accomplice, a resident of Gurdaspur, is still at large.

Asitha, the Sri Lankan national who introduced the victims to the accused, will also be arrested in connection with the case. Inderjit Singh has three prior cases against him under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
