Announcing that they would join the call for “Bharat Bandh” on February 16 given by farmer and labour unions, the government teachers union, including computer teachers and contractual employees of the Education Department, submitted a demand letter to the Chief Secretary, Punjab, via District Education Officer (DEO) Rajesh Kumar today.
Calling the move to support the “Bharat Bandh” as a protest against the Central Government’s “anti-people” policies of privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation, various employee organisations stated that it had been decided that all regular teachers of Punjab would go on a complete strike on February 16 (Friday).
“We will participate in “Bharat Bandh” on February 16. The contractual, probationary and computer teachers will go on mass leave and participate in demonstrations on the day,” said Ashwani Awasthi, member, DTF and Teachers’ Morcha, Punjab.
In view of the “Chakka Jam” that is going to be held on the day of bandh, teachers have also asked the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) to reschedule the board exams of Class X and XII on February 16.
As per current datesheet, the science exam for Class X and religion exam for Class XII is scheduled to be held on February 16.
