As many as 200 persons with disability (divyangs) were distributed free artificial aids and assistive devices at a block-level special camp organised here on Tuesday.

The camp was held under the ADIP (Assistance to Divyang Persons) and RVY (Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana) schemes of Government of India. Navjot Kaur Hundal, wife of Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, Tarn Taran MLA, was the chief guest on the occasion. Kanik Mehta, representative of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), SAS Mohali, was also present on the occasion.

The beneficiaries were given 346 artificial aids and assistive devices of the value of Rs 50 lakh which include tricycles, crutches, wheelchairs, calipers, walking canes, various types of hearing aids, including BTE (behind-the-ear). Braille kits, Braille writing equipment, low vision aids (like magnifiers) and communication devices for the deaf-blind etc.
