ASI consumes poison, dies

Tarn Taran: ASI Surinder Singh, a local resident, died after consuming some poisonous substance mistakenly on Wednesday. DSP Sucha Singh Bal said the deceased, who was posted at the Chabal police station, had consumed some poisonous substance mistakenly. He was rushed to a local private hospital, where he died, the DSP said. On the basis of a statement by Lakhwinder Kaur, the wife of the deceased, the police have lodged a report under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem examination. Five arrested with weapons

Tarn Taran: The police have arrested five persons with illegal weapons and ammunitions. SSP Dhruv Dahiya told mediapersons on Thursday that the suspects had been identified as Nirmal Singh Nimma of Mundapind village, Shamsher Singh of Benwalipur, Manjit Singh Jhadoo Nangal in Amritsar and Jagroop Singh Rupa and Gurdev Singh of Jaura village. Five pistols and 29 cartridges had been recovered from them, the SSP said. He said the suspects were involved in robbery incidents in the area. OC
